When a sudden pain strikes, the first thing we look for is a fast-acting medication. In Spain, a common choice is Algidol, a painkiller in sachets that combines paracetamol, codeine, and ascorbic acid. Its use is indicated for mild to moderate pain and fever, especially when the paracetamol alone is not enough.

In how many minutes does it take to feel relief?

The effect of Algidol begins to be felt approximately 30 to 60 minutes after taking it. This is due to the action of paracetamol, which provides initial relief, and codeine, which enhances the analgesic effect by converting into morphine in the body. When taken dissolved in water, absorption is usually relatively rapid.

Is it faster than Paracetamol?

Not necessarily. Paracetamol alone also begins to act within around 30 minutes, but its potency may be less in some cases. The difference is that Algidol combines the rapidity of paracetamol with the enhanced action of codeine, which doesn't make the onset much faster, but it does make the relief more intense and sustained for pain that doesn't respond to simple analgesics.

How many hours does its effect last?

Algidol's effect typically lasts between 4 and 6 hours, depending on the dose and individual response. This range is similar to that of paracetamol, although the addition of codeine may provide longer relief in some patients.

The product data sheet indicates that the usual dose is 1 sachet every 6-8 hours, but not to exceed 4 sachets per day. It should always be used under medical prescription, as codeine can cause drowsiness and dependence if misused. In summary, Algidol takes between half an hour and an hour to take effect, offers relief comparable to paracetamol in speed but with greater intensity, and its action lasts 4 to 6 hours. According to the product data sheet, children under 12 years of age or adolescents weighing less than 43 kg should not take Algidol due to respiratory risks, and for elderly patients, the recommended dose is 1 sachet every 8 hours.

For safe use, it is recommended to strictly follow medical instructions and always consult a doctor if you have any questions.
