To get the most out of Movicol, focus on three simple habits. Choose a regular time, dilute it properly, and make sure you are drinking enough fluids. The ideal time is whatever suits your day and makes it easier to stick with it. Many people notice a difference within a day or two.
Is it better in the morning or at night?
There's no single "best" time; choose a time you can repeat daily. Taking it in the morning allows you to observe the effect throughout the day, but if that's more convenient, nighttime is also fine.
For constipation, the usual adult dose is between 1 and 3 sachets per day, divided into doses, depending on the individual's response and medical advice. Higher doses are used for fecal impaction and should be confirmed and supervised by a healthcare professional.
Should it be taken with meals or on an empty stomach?
Movicol can be taken with or without food. If you experience digestive discomfort, take it with something light and maintain your daily routine. Gradually incorporate helpful habits, such as increasing fiber in your diet, engaging in some physical activity, and not delaying bowel movements.
Avoid taking other oral medications from one hour before to one hour after Movicol, so as not to reduce the absorption of those other medications.
How much water should I drink with the sachet?
With Movicol oral solution in a sachet, the product is already dissolved and you take it straight from the sachet, with no need to add water. Some people still prefer to pour it into a glass before drinking. If you use Movicol powder, dissolve each sachet in 125 mL of water and drink the full glass.
Drink 2โ2.5 liters of fluids a day (water or broth), unless your doctor has advised against it due to heart or kidney problems. Proper dilution, a daily routine, and adequate hydration help Movicol work optimally.
If you do not notice improvement in a few days, or if you need to continue the treatment longer than recommended, seek medical or pharmacist advice.
