Andalusia has launched a project to improve CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell) therapies in the treatment of hematological cancers.
According to government information, this initiative, called CART_ANDALUCÍA, is part of the Public Procurement of Innovation (CPI) strategy in the Andalusian public health system.
A step towards more effective and accessible therapies
The project seeks to develop an improved version of CAR-T therapies, making them more effective, less toxic, and more affordable. The main objective is to overcome the current challenges of CAR-T treatments, such as lack of response in some patients and high toxicity.
Furthermore, the aim is to improve the persistence of therapeutic effects and reduce the high costs associated with these therapies.
The tender, with a budget of €4.2 million, invites companies and organizations to submit proposals for the preclinical development of a new drug based on advanced therapies. The aim is to boost the fight against hematological cancers, such as acute myeloblastic leukemia and T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, for which there are currently no effective treatments.
Promoting public-private collaboration in health
The CART_ANDALUCÍA project, co-funded by the Andalusian FEDER Operational Program 2021-2027, aims to foster collaboration between the public and private sectors. Cooperation between companies, research institutions, and the Andalusian healthcare system is expected to lead to the development of new immunotherapies that could transform the treatment of hematological tumors, and eventually, solid tumors.
The tender has been approved by the Andalusian Regional Government's Steering Committee for Public Procurement of Innovation and is being managed by the Andalusian Technical Office for Public Procurement of Innovation in Health (OT-CPISalud), together with the Andalusian Network for the Design and Translation of Advanced Therapies (Radytta) of the Progress and Health Foundation.
Interested companies may submit their proposals until April 10, 2025. Detailed tender documents are available in the Andalusian Regional Government's Contracting Profile.
