Health boost in the Dominican Republic: Increase in services and donations

The SNS of the Dominican Republic registers a historical record in the production of services in 2024 and receives a CT scanner donated by Japan to strengthen diagnostic quality.

The Dominican Republic continues to make progress in strengthening its health system. In 2024, the National Health Service (NHS) reached historic figures in the production of medical services, while receiving a significant donation from the Government of Japan which will improve the quality of medical diagnoses in the country.

Historic record in services production in 2024

Ibuprofen Director of the NHS, Dr. Mario Lama, highlighted that in 2024, unprecedented figures were reached in the production of services, which reflects the government's efforts to improve health infrastructure. According to Lama, since the creation of the SNS in 2015, such high figures had never been achieved.

“The significant increase is the result of a strengthening plan implemented since August 2020, which included improvements in infrastructure and continuous equipping of hospitals,” Lama said.

Since 2020, more than 1,000 vehicles have been delivered. 60 hospitals with general renovations, expansions of critical areas such as Emergencies and new medical equipment worth more than 3,000 million pesos. Thanks to these efforts, it was possible to offer 170,899,325 services in the areas of consultations, emergencies, laboratory tests, imaging and surgeries.

2024 closed with an increase of 28,11%

The year 2024 closed with an increase in the production of services of the 28.11%, with a total of 9,283,728 additional services compared to 2019. This increase was highlighted in several key areas.

In the laboratory tests, for example, were carried out 25,769,898 tests, which represents an increase of 42.66% compared to 2019. Likewise, studies by medical images They grew up a 51.55%, reaching the 3,715,576 exams.

As for the emergencies, an increase of 1.53%, attending 5,071,183 cases, while the medical consultations They uploaded a 1.74%, with 7,287,335 assists. Finally, in the area of operating rooms, were carried out 469,784 surgeries, which is equivalent to an increase of 31.71%.

“These figures reflect a system that responds efficiently, with adequate medical equipment and a staff committed to patient care,” said Dr. Lama.

Ministry of Health and SNS receive CT scanner donated by the Government of Japan

Ibuprofen Government of Japan gave to Dominican Republic the room 128-slice CT scanner to the Doctor Dario Contreras Traumatology HospitalThis donation is part of the cooperation agreement to strengthen public health services in the country.

The delivery of the CT scanner was carried out by the Ambassador of Japan to the Dominican Republic, Hayakawa Osamu, at Deputy Minister of Collective Health, Eladio Perez, to the Director of the NHS, Mario Lama, and other Dominican government officials.

Dr. Lama thanked the Japanese Government for its contribution, stressing that this CT scanner will improve the quality of diagnostic studies in the country. He also recalled that Other CT scanners donated by Japan are operating in key hospitals such as the Vinicio Calventi (Saint Dominic), the Morillo King (La Vega) and the Taiwan March 19 (Azua).

For his part, the Japanese ambassador expressed his hope that the donation would significantly benefit the Dominican population. Deputy Minister Eladio Perez He also highlighted that the CT scanner will improve the country's diagnostic network, offering more accurate and higher quality medical diagnoses.
