The Council of Ministers of Spain has approved a mental health intervention for the population affected by the recent DANA in Valencia. This initiative of the Ministry of Health seeks to respond quickly and effectively to mental health needs with a preventive and coordinated approach.
Intervention with multidisciplinary teams
The main measure includes 14 specialized multidisciplinary teams that will offer direct psychological care in various community settings, such as schools and senior centers. They will also cover other areas where needs are detected.
These teams include professionals trained in psychological support for people affected by disasters. Their work will focus on facilitating access to resources, promoting emotional recovery and offering ongoing psychological support to the community.
The teams will carry out group support activities, prioritising group therapy and psychotherapy as a form of collective support and containment. In addition, individual psychotherapeutic care will be offered for urgent and serious cases, which will be referred to the mental health network of the Valencian Community Health Department for specialised monitoring.
Two Levels of Assistance after the DANA Valencia
The mental health intervention will be divided into two levels. In the community level, the teams will focus on preventive and health promotion actions, aimed at strengthening the social fabric and early detection of possible mental health problems. Among the activities that will be carried out are: emotional management workshops, social support programs and information activities, in collaboration with local resources.
