Peru and United Kingdom have expanded their collaboration in hospital infrastructure, integrating the Guillermo Díaz de la Vega Regional Hospital in Apurímac into the agreement. This hospital will join the projects in Trujillo and Piura, which are already underway, benefiting more than three million people.
The signing took place at the Presidential Palace in Lima, with President Dina Boluarte, the British Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook, and the Minister of Health, Dr. César Vásquez Sánchez, in attendance. This agreement allows the United Kingdom Healthcare Alliance (UKHA) Consortium, comprised of Aecom, Currie & Brown, and Gleeds, to continue providing technical assistance to the National Health Investment Program (PRONIS) of the Peruvian Ministry of Health.
Impact on the health and well-being of the population
Ambassador Gavin Cook emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating that it will improve social infrastructure and promote higher-quality healthcare. He also emphasized that these projects address the lack of infrastructure and improve citizens' quality of life, highlighting the positive impact the hospital will have on Apurímac.
The General Coordinator of PRONIS stated that this agreement will democratize access to healthcare, bringing quality infrastructure to more regions and improving the well-being of the population. The Apurímac hospital will offer highly complex care in a region facing significant challenges in access to medical services.
The construction of this modern hospital will substantially improve the quality of care in the southern region of the country. During construction, a Contingency Hospital will be installed to ensure uninterrupted health services. This effort seeks to ensure that the citizens of Apurímac receive continuous medical care while the new infrastructure is being built.
This project is part of a series of initiatives that will strengthen hospital infrastructure in Peru. The agreement also includes strengthening the UK-Peru Healthcare Partnership, which will enable the exchange of knowledge and innovation in the healthcare sector.
