The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed deep concern following the announcement of USA of its intention to leave the organization. This step, according to the WHO, could significantly weaken international cooperation in global health and threaten the joint response to health challenges.

The WHO therefore recalled that its primary mission is to protect the health and safety of all people, including American citizens. To achieve this goal, it focuses on combating diseases, strengthening health systems and responding effectively to health emergencies.

WHO's historic achievements

Throughout its 75 years of existence, WHO has led essential efforts to eradicate diseases such as smallpox and combat polio. These initiatives, carried out in close collaboration with the United States, have saved millions of lives around the world.

In this context, it is important to highlight that the United States has been a strategic partner in these achievements. For example, its technical and financial support has been crucial to implementing vaccination campaigns and developing innovative research.

The historical relationship between the United States and the WHO

Since its founding in 1948, the United States has played a leading role in the WHO. As a founding member, it has actively participated in strategic decision-making and in the design of global health policies.

Moreover, this collaboration has not only benefited the rest of the world, but also the American institutions themselves. They have taken advantage of their membership in the WHO to advance vaccine development, strengthen research programs and promote more effective public health policies.

Recent reforms for greater impact

Over the past seven years, WHO has implemented significant reforms that have improved its efficiency, transparency and responsiveness. Notable changes include improved accountability and a more agile approach to managing global emergencies.

Thanks to these reforms, the organization has been able to respond more efficiently to global crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and other health emergencies. It is worth mentioning that the United States has been a key player in this process of continuous improvement.

A call for reflection and dialogue

In light of this situation, the WHO calls on the United States to reconsider its decision. Preserving this historic alliance is essential to address the growing health challenges that threaten humanity.

The organization therefore calls for constructive dialogue to strengthen ties of cooperation. Working together is essential to protect the health and well-being of millions of people around the world.

WHO reiterates its commitment to continue making progress towards building a healthier and more supportive future for all.
