If the same prescription includes 3 chargeable items, 3 charges apply.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The charge for an NHS prescription does not depend on the price of the medicine.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The NHS clarifies that the charge is per item, not per prescription sheet. Therefore, the useful question is not how much the drug costs at the pharmacy, but how many items subject to reimbursement appear on the prescription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all products are charged the same. Some items are always free, such as contraceptives and medications prescribed to hospitalized patients. There are also clinical exemptions and low-income assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before claiming an exemption, it&#039;s advisable to double-check it. The NHSBSA warns that claiming free prescriptions when you&#039;re not entitled to them can result in a penalty of up to \u00a3100, even if the error was unintentional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens if you run out of medication?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#039;ve run out of your usual treatment, the 111 online service allows you to request a limited emergency supply of a medication you take on a repeat prescription. If you normally pay, your usual prescription fee will apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p data-no-translation>This guide refers to England. The NHSBSA notes that NHS prescriptions are free in Scotland and Wales.
