In general, you can take meloxicam with paracetamol on the same day, as long as it was recommended to you and you do not combine it with other anti inflammatory medicines. The key is to make sure you are not taking two NSAIDs at the same time and to review your other medications.

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for inflammation and pain in joint and muscle problems, and in Spain it is usually dispensed with a prescription. Paracetamol is a pain reliever for pain and fever and is not an anti-inflammatory.

Why is meloxicam combined with paracetamol?

They are combined because they work in different ways and, in some cases, a healthcare professional aims to improve pain relief without adding two NSAIDs. If the question comes from past experiences with other NSAIDs, the approach is similar to combining Enantyum and paracetamol.

What is meloxicam and what is it prescribed for in Spain?

Meloxicam belongs to the NSAID class and, according to the package insert, is used to reduce inflammation and pain, with indications such as osteoarthritis flare-ups and inflammatory joint diseases. It is not intended as a "catch-all" treatment without supervision when chronic medication is already being used.

The practical aspect is also important: in CIMA, it appears as a prescription medication in various forms. If you're a tourist or have recently moved, this explains why you might be asked for a prescription even if the requirements are different in your home country.

What combinations should be avoided when using meloxicam?

The general idea is to avoid doubling up on anti-inflammatories and be careful if you are already taking drugs that increase the risk of bleeding or affect the kidneys, such as some anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs; your pharmacist and doctor should review your list.

The table summarizes typical situations to watch out for when meloxicam appears in the treatment regimen

CombinationWhat to watch out for
Meloxicam + another NSAIDIncreased digestive risk
Meloxicam + anticoagulantRisk of bleeding
Meloxicam + diuretic or ACE inhibitorKidney risk

When to ask for help if you take meloxicam with paracetamol

Seek urgent medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or lips, a severe rash, black stools, vomiting blood, or severe abdominal pain. If the pain or fever does not improve, consult the package leaflet and ask your doctor.
